Bowen Therapy
I found Bowen Therapy particularly fascinating; I was told that my lymphatic system wasn’t functioning to its full potential and that my adrenals were ‘cold’ meaning they weren’t working properly either. My practitioner also did some kinesiology and my body tested positive for stress, scar tissue, antibiotics and inflammation.
My therapist told me that Bowen Therapy is similar to Acupuncture and uses many of the same principles but without the needles. So it’s another way to unblock the meridians and get the energy flowing, prompting the body to repair and rebalance. It is also known to stimulate lymphatic drainage.
Bowen Therapy is a hands-on therapy using very gentle pressure on precise points of the body. A practitioner will use his/her fingers and thumbs to perform rolling-type movements which are thought to stimulate the muscles and tissues in the body. It is a very light-touch procedure, and is very gentle and relaxing, yet it stimulates lymphatic circulation. It treats the body as a whole, and in my experience gets to places that no one else does! I believe it’s helped me massively to have more energy and lower pain levels.
A session with a Bowen Therapist will generally last between 45 minutes to an hour. It is recommended that you keep clothing light and loose, and you will remain fully clothed throughout the session.
You may get a post-treatment reaction such as stiffness and tiredness but this should be short lived. You shouldn’t let this put you off; a strong reaction simply demonstrates how profound the treatment has been. Bowen therapy may involve the lightest of touches, but it affects the body at incredibly deep levels and is amazingly therapeutic.
