Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is another holistic healing practice which uses very ‘light touch’; it consists of very gentle manual pressure to balance the craniosacral system in the body.  This system includes the cranium which is the bones forming the skull (minus the jaw), the spine and spinal cord, and the sacrum (the large triangular bone at the base of the spine connected to the pelvis) along with the nerves, connective tissue and fluids connecting them all.

It’s a very therapeutic procedure which aims to redress any imbalances in the craniosacral system, with the theory that by releasing restrictions in this area the functioning of the central nervous system can be significantly improved.  Once any blockages are removed then the body’s natural healing responses can start functioning fully.

It can be a very effective pain management technique for a number of problems including spine-related dysfunctions, back and neck pain, or spinal cord/brain injuries.  Equally it can help to alleviate problems such as depression, exhaustion/lethargy and insomnia, hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, stress-related illness, migraine, menstrual pain, arthritis and TMJ amongst others.

The procedure is considered to be extremely safe in most cases, but you will be able to discuss any concerns or injuries with the therapist prior to any session being carried out.  It’s possible to experience some mild discomfort after a treatment, depending on whatever trauma or injuries your body has previously experienced, but all side effects are temporary.
