Laughter
‘Happiness depends upon ourselves’
Aristotle
Laughter really is one of the best medicines. If I’m feeling low, or having a particularly rough time, I instinctively try to find ways to lift my mood. Sometimes (especially if I’m not feeling very energetic) I may just stick on a funny film or a comedy series. Another personal favourite is listening to music, I find it very uplifting. Music can have a great feel-good factor, and I often find myself singing away (and even dancing around the kitchen when my body permits it).
Alternatively I spend time laughing and joking with my family and suggest fun things to do. We may play games, or go to the park, anything that invokes a good time and laughter. It is truly therapeutic and can induce a feel-good factor.
On the other hand, call a friend for company – sometimes there’s nothing better than light-hearted banter over a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Other options include a good book, or a trip to the shops, cinema or theatre. Whatever you know that works for you, go for it!
