Fatty Liver

The liver plays a vital role in a number of body functions including detoxification, digestion, fat regulation, hormone balance and circulation.

Stress, a poor diet or over-medication can all contribute to liver problems, leading to more chronic health issues such as constant fatigue, blurred vision, headaches, irritability and poor concentration.  Other signs that the liver isn’t working as well as it should include weight gain (especially around the midriff), obesity, stiff joints, dizziness, high blood pressure, depression, allergies, chemical sensitivities, itchiness and memory impairment.  You may also find yourself unable to tolerate fatty foods and feel uncomfortable after meals, or you might develop food sensitivities.

The liver is most affected by the foods we eat, and a diet high in ‘junk’ and alcohol will overload the liver and affect its ability to process nutrients.

Stretching and deep breathing, especially early in the morning, not only reduces stress levels but can also be the most beneficial form of exercise for anyone suffering liver problems.  Although all forms of exercise stimulate blood circulation, which in turn helps all the body’s organs to function better.

A whole host of different foods are considered ‘liver friendly’ and can help reduce the toxic overload, most notably foods high in minerals (fresh fruit and vegetables), olive oil, fresh chicken and fish, onion, garlic, apples and lemons.  Ensuring that you drink plenty of filtered water is also essential, and warm water with lemon helps the liver to regenerate and produce bile.  Malic acid is also a very important component for liver health, and is found in high quantities in apples.

A lymphatic drainage massage can also be beneficial for helping boost the liver as well as the lymphatic system by speeding up toxin removal and helping the organs to function to their full potential.

Aloe vera and milk thistle are both powerful herbs that help the liver too, along with Chlorophyll as it’s a very alkaline product so it reduces acidity and helps detoxify the colon so fewer toxins get into the liver.
